No (More) Sale: Bigotry On A Bun

Can't remember the last time we had a Chick-fil-A sandwich, but -- after learning that the chain considers marital status and church attendance in evaluating prospective employees, and doesn't like gays -- we are confident it was the last one.

Bigotry is a powerful force, strong enough to make a KFC Double Down sandwich look good.

The KFC Double Down should have an American Heart Association warning label attached to it.

That wouldn't accomplish much.

A defibrilator in the box could be nice, though -- sort of a Happy Meal for 50-somethings.

Try a cardiologist.

LOL

Is it too cynical to suspect that cardiologists subsidize Double Downs?

We probably shouldn't confuse the cardiologists whose profession is to save lives with UPMC's billing department, whose job appears to be to hound suffering parents while their children die of cancer.

We certainly should not. There are still plenty of physicians -- although not as many, it seems, as walked among us before medical school became as a much a financial draw as a spiritual or professional one -- who are admirably devoted to healing their neighbors.

The people who run huge medical practices and insurers under the tax-advantaged guise of charity, however, are a far different kettle of parasites.
