'A Couple Things Went Awry'

Gee, ya think so?

Tear-it-down seems to be city government's mantra these days. Hazelwood and Soho/Uptown (leaving aside the Igloo) are two good examples. Yes, nuisance properties should be dealt with, but at some point too many vacant lots diminish a neighborhood.

Unless they somehow didn't destroy the house right, I'd say only one really big thing went awry.

To anon: A vacant lot is better than a vacant house if nobody is likely to live in that house aagain. Hazelwood is one thing, but when you go to places like Lincoln–Lemington–Belmar the abandonded buildings are much more common. A non-trivial portion of the houses in Pittsburgh will never be lived in again.

Thoughts:

1) Sorry, can't follow that attempted link. Try HTML, or some other method that either creates a link or doesn't truncate the URL?

2) Demolishing the wrong house, like amputating the wrong limb, is a problem big enough to require extraordinary safeguards. It should not happen.

Anon's link goes to the Trib story where the city said no more jobs to this firm. Which seems like a "no duh" response.

How did you identify the proper URL, MH? Clairvoyance?

Taking a breather with the demolition firm seems appropriate. Checking and probably improving both internal and external (vendors') safeguards seems necessary.

The whole URL is there, but just ran past the margin. I just used copy-paste taking care to get the line above and below.

Tried that, didn't work. You must possess magical powers, just like Bob Mayo.

You can also view the source code and pull it from there.

The Trib story tells me that the firm didn't have any juice with the Ravenstahl administration.
