The Awkwardly Arranged, Inconveniently Illuminated, And Unusually Ungrammatical Life Of Joanna Doven

WTAE's Jim Parsons observes that the junior varsity tryout for mayoral mouthpiece in InsolvenCity continues, by quoting Joanna Doven:
"Are you a City resident that [sic] is disgusted with the actions of some Council Members? Make sure you fan Vince Pallus for Pittsburgh City Council, running against Darlene Harris...he's a good guy and will work hard for the people of Pittsburgh, not to just to get [sic] his own road paved!"
Another usage tip for Ms. Doven (right): It's a "Facebook glitch" when Facebook makes a mistake; when the Facebook user makes the mistake, that's operator error.

Joanna Doven: Quite an operator. (To be fair, she and her colleagues in the Ravenstahl administration might be preoccupied by pondering whether the murderous situation involving the South Side Intoxication District constitutes a crisis yet. Here's a two-word head start: Lexa Cleland (left).)

Perhaps the city solicitor might prepare an advisory memorandum using the "City of Pittsburgh Official Facebook Page Sure Loves It Some Pallus" example concerning improper use of public resources with respect to social media, and present it to mayoral staffers in a crowded theatre?

This is priceless.

ps, I'm not sure Vince Pallus knows what City Council is.

There is a specific process to adding a favorite page to FB pages. It is not like clicking the 'Like' button as on a personal FB account. Adding a favorite page CANNOT be done mistakenly because there is an approval for the action which must be given. She is clearly not being truthful. If the media were aware of the process, they would not accept her lame excuse.

"Glitch" was almost assuredly inaccurate. Most likely the issue was either a cookie or human confusion. Either way, that's something simple and important for an official spokesperson to keep straight.

But it's not the world's biggest deal, your [sic]'s are gratuitous, and Carson Street hardly deserves to be dragged in to your petty warmongering between tribes.

Heard Pallus speak at the Young Dems endorsement Thursday night at Hough's. He seems pretty nervous and uptight. Had his talking points down, but my initial gut impression of him was that it seemed like someone put him up to running. Then I learned that he's the Boy's boy, as Ms. Doven confirms. So now I'm sure he was put up to it.

People are being run over regularly along Carson Street (among other problems caused by out-of-control drunks). Some public officials -- Kraus, prosecutors -- are trying to do something about it. Others are actively running interference for irresponsible saloons, and telling the public there is nothing to worry about. If that seems petty, it might be time to take another look at Lexa Cleland's photograph.

Infy, what is your take on Lukey's visible lack of visibility of late? Other than packing foodstuffs at the mall and later announcing the pie-in-the-sky plan for the Allegheny River development, he's absent for the most part from a Google News search.

Is he keeping himself out of the limelight, or are others helping?

Also, begging Vince-is-a-good-guy's pardon, from a PR 101 perspective, Ms. Doven is either clueless or careless, or both. No PR professional with an understanding of the ethics of the profession would do what she did, either on personal or business time. The PR ethics code states:

-Act in the best interests of the client or employer, even subordinating the member's personal interests.

-Avoid actions and circumstances that may appear to compromise good business judgment or create a conflict between personal and professional interests.

Lastly, misspellings and grammatical errors are signs of a sloppy employee and of someone who didn't do well in J-school. Most PR and Journalism profs would give that statement an instant "F" for such clear errors.

Of course, her boss is no Shakespeare either, especially with his consistent misuse of "myself" and overall poor sentence structure.

Let's be intellectually honest here. Lexa died in a drunk driving accident. It's awful and it happens to loved ones every day. Can we possibly weigh whether that has anything to do with Mr. Ravenstahl declining to pick up and push along Mr. Kraus' little piece of paper? It's necessary to retain some skepticism whether the South Carson truly is in "crisis" which would demand the extraordinary, floodgate-opening resource and manpower allocations that are part of crisis response.

Let's be intellectually honest here. Lexa died in a drunk driving accident, which, if we had proper law enforcement on the South Side, might have been prevented.

Now I feel like I'm on the Tonight Show: HOW PROPER IS IT?

Anon 12:48:

Beginning with "intellectually" and "honest" was a deft touch . . . if intended as irony.

If not, keep your fingers crossed for a pharmaceutical response to self-awareness deficiency.

On the substantive plane: Are you attempting to be persuasive?

I was starting to think you were on vacation.......

Welcome back!

Nah, just building up enough steam to get through county races, city council races, and assorted wingnuttery.

Back to James -- not to sound like we're on the tonight show, but HOW PROPER IS IT? That's the question you think you've got answered. Question that.

Flooding South Carson with manpower two days a week and busying them with parking violations wasn't sustainable and wasn't measurably effective. I can't speak to the term paper.

I am not an expert in city finances, but couldn't the fees collected in issuing citations be used to offset the cost for the added enforcement? It sounds like it should be a self-paying operation.

Only so many cops, though, with so many hrs in the day.

Infinonymous said...

Only so many cops, though

There are already plenty of police officers along Carson Street.

Who do you think drags InsolvenCity's most prominent partier from the VIP rooms to his SUV?

Anonymous said...

why is the Mayor allowed to have city paid cops escort him from bar to bar on the South Side?

How is that proper?

James said...

They're for "protection". Protection from what and by whom has yet to be established.

what about people taking responsibility for their own actions?? there are drunks all over the road...not just in the south side. similar incidents occur multiple times a day all over the United States. it was an unfortunate event; however, it is a bit of a stretch to blame a drunk driving incident on the mayor. should we blame all of the other ones that occur in the US on the president????
