I once stopped to give a ride to a Mexican immigrant who needed a new tire and you didn't see me making a big fuss about it on the internet. Boasting rain-state hipsters.

I believe the beneficiary of the good deed, rather than the person who helped his fellow man, published the account.

The message seemed to be "If only everyone would be like me, so deep and unprejudiced, the world could learn from non-white people."

From here, the message seemed to be 'That someone who most readers would regard as having so little would be quick to stop and help, while reluctant to accept payment, was a striking lesson about people in general and their generosity and character in particular.'

People in shitty cars are more helpful. Also more likely to be serial killers. Both of these are well known facts.
