Another Republican Candidate For Mayor

Kevin Acklin, the Republican running as an independent, has launched his campaign against Luke Ravenstahl, the Republican who passes for a Democrat (much like several others in the strange environment of Pittsburgh-Allegheny County politics). Dok Harris, the Democrat, also is running, but not as a Democrat.

Why so much interest in being on the ballot against the frontrunner? Perhaps an expectation that the likelihood of a severe stumble makes it worthwhile to take a shot at being the Election Day alternative?

I know and like Kevin but he doesn't have much of a shot. His past history is too much tied in with the Republican party.

People will see through the lines that he isn't an Independent but a Republican.

I think he certainly WAS a Republican. It's fair in polite conversation to allude to him as the Republican candidate.

But to be fair, I don't think anyone knows what Republican is anymore. Is this not the very reason their party is self-asphixiating?

If you can link him to George W. Bush or Dick Cheney, THEN I'll worry.

There is only one guy who is going to have an R next to his name on the ballot.

I'm supporting Dok Harris.
